Utah State Fire Marshal/HazMat Section
Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office/Hazmat Section:
The Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office (USFMO) Hazmat Section serves as the state’s primary authority for hazardous materials preparedness and response coordination. Their mission focuses on protecting lives and the environment from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and energetic materials (CBRNE) threats. The section oversees the Hazardous Materials Advisory Council, establishing rigorous training standards for first responders statewide. Training tiers range from Awareness and Operations to specialized Technician and Incident Commander levels. By partnering with federal agencies, they offer advanced courses in prevention and specialized response to weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
Response and Support Capabilities: The USFMO facilitates a statewide network of regional response teams, ensuring high-level technical support is available to responders and the communities they serve 24-hours a day/7 days a week.
