The Social Detour

The Social Detour

A little detour. A lot of new connections.

New to Washington, DC? Still building your social circle? Or have you lived here for years and want to meet some new people? The Social Detour is for you.

We're creating a welcoming social community for young adults in their 20s and 30s who want to meet people, explore the city, and build a more connected life outside their usual routines.

Our events have a special emphasis on people who are new to DC—whether you've just moved for a job, school, or a fresh start, or you're still trying to find your people in a city that can sometimes feel surprisingly hard to break into. You don't have to navigate a new city alone, and you don't need an established friend group to join us.

We're kicking things off with a casual waterfront meetup at Cantina Bambina at The Wharf. Stop by for a drink, enjoy the views, and meet people who are also interested in making genuine connections.

Come solo. Leave with new connections.

Whether you're brand-new to the District or a longtime local looking to expand your circle, you're welcome here. Come on your own or bring a friend. We'll do our best to make introductions and get conversations started.

What to expect

  • A relaxed waterfront setting
  • Opportunities to meet newcomers and longtime DC residents
  • Friendly introductions and low-pressure conversation
  • A casual evening where you can arrive within the event window
  • A chance to hear about future Social Detour outings

Cost

There is no event ticket fee. Attendees purchase their own drinks and snacks directly from the venue. Cantina Bambina offers daily specials rather than a traditional, fixed happy-hour menu, so specific discounts are not guaranteed.

Who can attend?

  • Adults in their 20s and 30s of all genders are welcome. Please register so we have an idea of how many people may attend.
  • This isn't a dating event or a professional networking mixer. It's a chance to make friends, discover new places, and feel a little more at home in DC.
  • You don't have to know anyone before you arrive. That's what we're here for.

Let's make a life outside your routine—one detour at a time.
