Amy Heikkila, Jennifer Teed

We are Amy Heikkila and Jenny Teed, Metro Detroit artists that have known each other since childhood. We had the amazing idea to put our creative minds together and form "The Nest," a place where you can come to learn, share, have fun and enjoy your community.

Jenny specializes in teaching art in a way that makes space for acceptance, joy, laughter while learning, and having fun while creating a lasting art-piece that students are always proud of. She uses mixed mediums, teaching whimsical watercolor, linostamping, slow stitching, vision boards, gelli printing, and collage button making.

Amy's focus is on Junk Journaling. This is the art of turning everyday scraps, memories, words, and treasures into a creative reflection of one's story. This artform generates mindfulness, self-expression, and can lead the artist anywhere they want to go. Amy is planning on classes that involve themes, parent/child nights, prompted creative writing, bookmarks/tags, journaling for anxiety, and more. Examples of items used in creating a junk journal are: receipts, concert tickets, photos, wrappers, gift wrap from a special gift, ribbon, charms, yarn, fabric, vintage papers, new papers, stickers, ephemera, buttons, beads, and washi tape.
