Black English Bookstore
More than a place to buy a book.
Black English is a women-owned, independent bookstore rooted in Tampa Heights and built as a home for Black literature, reading culture, and real community exchange.
Founded by the late educator, community leader, and Tampa City Councilwoman Gwendolyn Henderson, the store carries forward a belief that access to books, language, and self-definition belongs in the life of every community.
Named for James Baldwin's enduring question, Black English makes room for readers, writers, and neighbors who believe books can help a community tell its own story.
