About the teacher

Ayanna is a 500 hr RYT

Hello, my name is Ayanna. My yoga journey began in 2009 with a meditation class at a yoga studio taken to help me manage my ADHD. I fell in love with the practice and the path it offered towards peace and inner stillness. In 2017 I travelled to India for the first time to fully immerse myself in the practice of yoga, learning from the masters in the birth place of the practice. I was trained in Ayurveda and Ashtanga yoga which I loved for the structure, timelessness, and consistency. I love the emphasis on breath-movement synchronization, the focus and clarity brought about by use of drishtis, and the energetic manipulation of bandhas. In 2025 I returned to India to live in an Ashram in Rishikesh, nestled in the Himalayan Mountains, studying Pranayama, Kundalini, Hatha, and deepening my Ashtanga practice. This trip greatly expanded my knowledge of breath work and the pranic body. My personal practice and teaching style lean toward free flowing movement, and settled embodiment that leads to a greater awareness of the subtle energy within and around you. I utilize many of the tools of an Ashtanga practice while also tying in aspects of the chakras and elements as experienced in Kundalini, and the relaxed pace and embodied presence of a Hatha practice. My goal in all classes is to help my students to feel at home in their bodies, and strengthen their relationship with their own personal power.

Off the mat, I love nature, crocheting, gardening, astrology, music, roller skating, dancing, and just having a good time.
