Justin Hagen

Justin Hagen, known in the visual and martial worlds as Shoto Khan, is an ukiyo-e–inspired woodburn artist, educator, event promoter and martial arts instructor whose work serves as a physical and bridge between ancient martial tradition and the modern world.

A practitioner since 1994, Hagen’s foundation is built on decades of physical grind in Kyokushin Karate, Taekwondo, and Kickboxing. However, his commitment to the "Way" is not merely physical. With a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy (University of Rhode Island, 2011) and a Master’s degree in Education (DeSales University, 2018), he treats martial arts as a rigorous academic discipline. His graduate research on the impact of martial arts in public education serves as the philosophical backbone for his instruction in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. As a contributor to Black Belt Magazine and the author of definitive works like Intent: The Path of the Warrior and Shodai-Soke: 101 Quotes, his mission is to preserve the "Soke" (Founders') wisdom for a new generation.
