Alexa Batista CEO & Founder
Alexa Batista is an Afro-Latina entrepreneur of Dominican and Afro-Cuban descent, born and raised in the South Bronx, whose journey into wellness and skincare is rooted in resilience, ancestral healing, and purpose.
As a single mother, she faced one of her lowest moments with just 16 cents to her name, navigating how to care for her sons while rebuilding her life from the ground up. When her son’s eczema worsened, despite medicated treatments and over-the-counter products she turned to the one place she knew held truth, her grandmother’s wisdom.
Guided by generations of ancestral knowledge, her grandmother introduced her to a traditional shea butter blend, crafted with intention, natural ingredients, and cultural healing practices. Within days, her son’s skin transformed. That moment became the foundation of what would grow into Balanced Shea.
What began in her kitchen, her sacred space quickly expanded beyond her home. Alexa began creating small batches not only for family, but for women in shelters, transitional housing, and correctional facilities, offering healing through care packages rooted in dignity and love. The response was undeniable.
Balanced Shea was born as more than a skincare brand, it is a movement.
Through every product, Alexa honors her heritage by blending ethically sourced ingredients with ancestral wisdom, creating culturally intentional skincare designed for melanin-rich skin. Each formula carries the energy, care, and tradition passed down from her grandmother, made to heal, empower, and reconnect communities to their roots.
Today, Balanced Shea stands as a testament to survival, cultural pride, and generational legacy proving that from even the smallest beginnings, something powerful can grow.
“My grandmother taught me that what you create holds your energy. So I create with love, with intention, and with the hope that it heals someone the way it healed us.”
“Rooted in heritage. Made with intention. Created to heal.”
