Kierra Darshell
Kierra Darshell celebrates a distinguished and influential career in the art of female impersonation. Known as Pittsburgh’s First Lady of Drag, Ms. Darshell - a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native - is a respected leader, role model, innovator, and mentor within the local drag community.
She made history as the first Black queen crowned Miss Gay Pittsburgh, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in the region’s entertainment and LGBTQ+ cultural landscape. In 1992, she founded and began producing the Tri-State All-Star Pageantry System, later expanding the platform to include both Miss Newcomer and Mister divisions, creating opportunities for emerging performers to showcase their talent.
Ms. Darshell is the producer and host of popular Saturday and Sunday Drag Brunches, including a notable Mother’s Day Drag Brunch in 2023 attended by Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman and his family. Her dynamic hosting portfolio also includes Outrageous Bingo, Pittsburgh Leather Contests, and numerous community and corporate performances throughout the region.
Among her many career highlights, Ms. Darshell has served as the opening act for legendary entertainers including Patti LaBelle, Gloria Gaynor, Martha Reeves, and Christine Ebersole. She produced drag entertainment for the Hamilton Broadway touring cast party, as well as the Kinky Boots musical after-party hosted by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and attended by Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award winner Billy Porter.
A celebrated cultural figure, Ms. Darshell has appeared on the covers of multiple publications and became the first drag queen featured in The Icons of Pittsburgh annual magazine. In 2021, she served as a judge for Mr. Gay America in Las Vegas, further recognizing her national influence within the drag community.
Closing out 2024 with yet another milestone, Kierra Darshell produced and hosted the first-ever drag show featured during the New Year’s Eve Highmark First Night Pittsburgh celebration at the Cultural Trust’s Greer Theater - a historic moment highlighting the growing visibility and celebration of drag artistry in mainstream cultural events.
Kierra produced the final drag show at the legendary Pittsburgh Hard Rock Cafe before the Station Square location closed in 2025, presenting a sold-out Pittsburgh Drag Queens Reunion show that celebrated the city’s rich drag legacy. She also produced and hosted the Pittsburgh Black Pride 30th Anniversary Drag Show, honoring three decades of community, culture, and visibility. Kierra was further recognized through an interview with renowned writer and author Frank Gaimari for Stonewall News Northwest, featured both on the publication’s website and in its printed edition available on Amazon.
