Steady Hand
We built Steady Hand because we believe making things is good for people — and that most of us stopped doing it somewhere along the way. Not because we lost interest, but because somewhere between childhood and adulthood, making things started feeling like it had to mean something. Like it had to be good. Like it had to be worth showing someone.
It doesn’t.
Steady Hand is a creative café inside Continuum Art in downtown Hendersonville, NC, and our whole philosophy fits in three words: create badly, often. Show up, pick something off the menu, and make something imperfect while your favorite record plays in the background. We keep a vinyl setup running because good music makes everything better — including the slightly lopsided clay dish you’re going to be unreasonably proud of anyway.
We’re not a class. We’re not a studio. We’re not going to stand over your shoulder and tell you what you’re doing wrong. We set everything up, we put the materials in front of you, and we get out of your way. What you make is yours. How it turns out is beside the point.
Come alone, come with friends, come on a Tuesday afternoon when you need somewhere to be that isn’t your couch or your desk. We’re here Tuesday through Sunday, the door is open, and the only thing we ask is that you show up willing to make something — badly, joyfully, and as often as you can manage it.
