University Women Helping Afghan Women

University Women Helping Afghan Women is an interest group of the Canadian Federation of Women in Ottawa, dedicated to supporting education and human rights for women and girls in Afghanistan. Through monthly meetings, fundraising events, and advocacy, they aim to increase awareness and improve the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan, with a focus on tertiary education. Despite the challenges posed by the Taliban takeover, they remain committed to this mission. Their work has been recognized provincially, locally and internationally. Since its inception, UWHAW has raised over $170,000 to support over 100 female students.

Remote Communication Assistance (RCA) program

Following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, UWHAW was forced to suspend funding for girls' scholarships at Gawharshad University in Kabul, Afghanistan. Subsequently, in 2022 the Taliban banned women from attending University. In response to this situation and to continue supporting the women previously enrolled in Gawharshad University, we partnered with Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan's (CW4WAfghan) Remote Communication Assistance (RCA) program. This program provides laptops, data packages for internet access, and power banks (as electricity in Afghanistan is unreliable)
