Typewriter Muse is a nationally respected typewriter repair and cultural space founded in 2020

by Riverside native Bob Marshall. One of only a handful of professional typewriter mechanics

still working in the United States, Marshall provides expert care, repair, and mechanical service

for antique manual typewriters at his Riverside-based shop.

By day, Marshall serves as a lead maintenance mechanic for the County of Riverside. By night

and on weekends, he operates Typewriter Muse, where machines from collectors, writers,

institutions, and Hollywood clients arrive from across the country.

In the last six months alone, Marshall’s machines have appeared at the Getty Prize Gala and

in an Academy Awards video featuring more than a dozen well-known actors and actresses

sharing “Words of Wisdom,” each typed on a glossy black 1933 Royal Portable from the Muse

Machine collection. Actor and well-known typewriter enthusiast Tom Hanks is among his

clients.
