South Shore Drill Team
South Shore Drill Team was founded by former Chicago Public School teacher Arthur Robertson in1980, with just 3 members. The team was created as an alternative to the negative activity happening in the streets of Chicago. To date the team serves an average of 175 young people annually, from ages 8 -24. Performing at over 100+ events a year. Some of the team’s notable performance includes the Bud Billiken Day Parade, Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, 2020 NBA All-Star Game Halftime Show with Chance the Rapper,
Inaugural parades for President Obama and President Biden. The team has also been featured on Good Morning America, America's Got Talent and 80’s classic movie Ferris Buellers Day Off.
The team alumni include first responders, medical professionals, entrepreneurs, lawyers, journalists, schoolteachers and more recently an Emmy Award winner. Since 2010, we have seen 100% of our high school seniors graduate high school and go onto a 4-year college/university or vocational training.
