Harlem River Farms

Harlem River Farms (HRF) is a Houston-based urban agriculture organization dedicated to increasing food access, building community self-reliance, and empowering residents to grow more of their own food. Rooted in Houston’s historic Third Ward, HRF works at the intersection of food justice, education, and economic sustainability.

HRF manages and supports multiple growing spaces across the Greater Houston area, including community gardens, demonstration farms, orchards, and starter-plant hubs. Through hands-on training, volunteer engagement, and strategic partnerships with schools, churches, community centers, and local institutions, HRF helps individuals and families reduce grocery costs while improving health and environmental outcomes.

Signature initiatives include the Grow More, Spend Less Urban Agriculture Training Series, large-scale community planting and tree giveaway events, youth and family gardening programs, and support for local growers and food pantries. HRF believes that growing food should be accessible, practical, and economically meaningful—and that strong communities are built when people learn, plant, maintain, harvest, and eat together.
