United Social Dancing
Dancing has always been more than just a pastime for me. It has been a journey of self-discovery, well-being, and pure jubilation. From my earlier years of running from one line dance class to another, I knew that I had stumled upon something special. But it was when I was introduced to the partner dance community that I really fell in love. Over the years I have dabbled in a number of urban partner dances from "Swingout to Ballroom. I even learned West Coast Swing but I have never mastered any one of those dances because it is difficult, not impossible, to perfect your dance without people to dance with nor a place that caters to the partner dance community.
So I decided to help bring my personal passion to the heart of New Orleans. I envision an new dimension for New Orleans – one that introduces the grace, connection, and artistry of more sophisticated, structured dance forms. Oh coarse, this won't take the place of second line but it would add to our already vibrant culture.
"I know New Orleans loves to dance, and I truly believe that once they experience partner dancing they will fall in love with it just as I have.
So I first started a set, here in New Orleans at LeRoux's on the Lake called Monday Night Socials. It is a common ground where dancers can come social dance with one another. This is a set for all partner dancing no matter what style of urban dance that they do.
Then it was my vision to help grow the dance community by bring a series of beginner-friendly workshops that help participants learn about lead-follow dancing. I believe that this will strengthen our dance community and start a new craze.
I sincerely hope that others will find this movement to be more than just as a hobby or a form of exercise but also as a way to excape the evils of this world and let it become their therapy and a lifeline too.
