Scribbles of Strength

Emily Marjean Coolbeth is a seasoned writer and educator. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of education, having had a career as a middle and high school English teacher and a professional tutor for students ages 6-60. Though no longer in the public school classroom, Emily continues to foster her love of teaching and the creative and literary arts by acting as a creative mentor and facilitating writing and healing workshops. Her philosophy on teaching is simple: to meet individuals "where they are at" and to inspire and encourage students to discover their own potential.

Emily has studied creative writing and literature at the University of Florida, where she holds a BA in English. She has also studied creative writing through the Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC-Asheville and is a graduate student at Lenoir-Rhyne University, pursuing her MFA in creative nonfiction and her certificate in Narrative Healthcare. She is the creator of an online publication entitled No Pain Wasted on Substack, which is described as "an honest and unapologetic multi-genre literary journey exploring the light with the darkness, the love beyond the pain."

Emily is a person in long-term recovery from substance addiction and a survivor of human trafficking and domestic violence, as well as other trauma. Writing has been an integral part of her own healing journey and she is passionate about helping others on their paths to contentment and wholeness.
