Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration

Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration

The Bastrop Juneteenth Committee is organized for the purpose of commemorating the abolishment of slavery on June 19, 1865 in the state of Texas and throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States. In 1986 many Bastrop citizens came together to form a community organization known as Bastrop Juneteenth. The objectives of the committee are to sponsor, host and/or participate in events and activities that promote social change, service to the community, and education of black history and customs. Each year the celebration holds annual weekend events. Activities include school reunions of the former historically African-American schools in Bastrop, family reunion meet-ups, a parade, festival and a street dance.
