Kinesis Project dance theatre, led by choreographer Melissa Riker, creates another beautiful and engaging world for the gorgeous rooftop terrace of John Jay College through the CUNY Dance Initiative. 
TimePiece, or: Another imperfect measurement of us, Riker’s newest collaboration with NYC costume designer Asa Thornton and Seattle visual artist Celeste Cooning, is a site-specific dance about time, perspective and connection‎ over distances created for the breathtaking roof. 
With live music and dances on escalators, steps, on the grass and viewed from above, the piece spans the entire space, and invites audiences into the colorful world of the piece.  As the dancers move, spin and partner – their costumes slowly release brightly colored sand – drawing the audience, time, and the performance, throughout the space.
.....Imagine a sand kaleidoscope spilling into real life: messy and wonderful.
Audiences should expect to move throughout the evening, however there will be seating available for those in need.

Join Kinesis Project dance theatre for Revealing Dances,  an open dance rehearsal and facilitated conversation series. 
For this iteration of Revealing Dances, audiences members are invited to witness and be part of the creation process of Kinesis Project’s  newest work, TimePiece, or: Another imperfect measurement of us. The innovative, outdoor dance company is currently developing this work in residence at the amazing rooftop terrace of John Jay College 
There are two parts to this Revealing Dances evening:
First, a public rehearsal by the company invites audiences into the process of how an outdoor,  site-specific dance is made. 
Second, refreshments and a conversation facilitated by Jeremy Williams based on the creative process theme of "Practice."
 Revealing Dances audiences receive a discount code for the final performances of "TimePiece..." on Sept 16th or 17th to see the work fully realized!

Where is the rooftop terrace?
The JayWalk Rooftop Terrace is on the 3rd Floor of 524 W. 59th St. There will be ushers and staff to help you find the elevator to the correct floor.

Revealing Dances: A window into creating site specific performance

Join Kinesis Project dance theatre for Revealing Dances,  an open dance rehearsal and facilitated conversation series.

Kinesis Project dance theatre, hosted by The Rockaway Artists Alliance, presents a performance experience along the beach of Fort Tilden.
Audiences will meet at Rockaway Artist Alliance's sTudio Gallery 7 in Fort Tilden.
Wear clothes for a fall day at the beach and shoes for walking.
After the performance, audiences are welcome back to enjoy the art opening at the Rockaways Artists Alliance.

OPTIONAL TRANSPORTATION: Kinesis Project has partnered with the NYC Beach Bus to bring our audiences easily to the Rockaways. Tickets are required to board the bus.
Bus leaves from Barclay's Center Shake Shack, 170 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, at 12pm and 3:30pm.

ABOUT THE DANCE : Three years in the making, Secrets and Seawalls stems from the choreographer's questions about the integrity of NYC's seawalls and the impact of weather. Working in collaboration with architect Lee Skolnick, Riker and Skolnick use the lenses of their respective art forms to create a dance work that tracks vulnerability in ourselves and in structures.
