About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

United Through Movement is a curated dance production presented by BlakTinx Dance Festival to celebrate the work of Black and LatinX choreographers in the Leimert Park / Los Angeles community.

We're excited to bring you a diverse and eclectic show that incorporates an array of dance styles. It will be an evening of electrifying storytelling; an intimate reflection of the illustrious tapestry of cultures, ages, genders and disciplines of art that make Los Angeles a truly extraordinary city.

This will be our 12th annual BlakTinx Dance Festival and the 2nd time since the pandemic that we will be back in a theater together. Previously we hosted our event as an outdoor festival in the iconic Leimert Park and continue to focus on producing cultural experiences in the Crenshaw community.

This year's celebration will take place at

Crenshaw Yoga and Dance on May 18th at 6:30pm.

Our incredible line-up includes new works from:

Noel Bajandas

Boomer and Boom Squad

Taisha Clark

Shauna Davis

Victor Gonzalez

Luckie

Diana Toledo

During the show, we'll be honoring Raélle Dorfan, Director of the Dance Resource Center of LA, for her tireless support and love of dance in the greater LA area for many years. We also acknowledge the DRC's recent support of movement artists that were impacted by the wildfires in Altadena and the Pacific Palisades.

We also want to honor Boomer for his continued contributions to carving a path for young dancers in LA to fulfill their dreams while representing our city with a fervent authenticity.

In the wake of the recent fires, our hearts are with every family, friend, and neighbor who has faced loss and uncertainty. While the flames may have touched our homes, they have not broken our spirit.

Now, more than ever, we are reminded of the strength we find in one another. In every act of kindness, every helping hand, and every shared word of comfort, we see the heart of our community burning brighter than any fire ever could.

This dance concert is being co-produced by The Bootleg Theater and The Latina Dance Project with support from the DCA, LA County Arts, Creative West and the Dance Resource Center.
