About this event

Make a splash at our Under the Sea cookie class! 🐠 Decorate fin-tastic treats that are 'shore' to delight! 🧁🌊🧜‍♀️

In this 1.5-hour class, we’ll cover the basics of sugar cookie decorating (it’s beginner-friendly!).

We will learn the basics by decorating an Under the Sea-themed cookie set, which includes six cookies and four icing colors.

We'll do piping with Royal Icing, discuss how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing!

Everything you’ll need is provided at the class, and an in-person instructor will guide you through each step. Just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).

You’ll leave class with a thorough understanding of decorating techniques, recipes, and links to purchase tools to create cookies at home.

Below are more details on refunds, what to bring, credits, and frequently asked questions (FAQs). I look forward to having you join us!

About this Class

This class is for the beginner cookie decorator or someone curious about cookie decorating!

If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, have found yourself frustrated with royal icing, or want a great outing for your family or friends to join you, this class is for you!

I provide everything you need, from cookies, icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your fabulous creations home. All that is required is you!

Each to-be-cookie-decorator gets six cookies, four icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped before class, so no baking or mixing of icing is required. Just decorate!

These classes start at 10:15 sharp, so I have enough time to decorate and answer questions.

Whether you're coming with a friend, a family member, or solo, it's a blast! I only have seating for up to 10 people, so sign up early to secure your spot.

This class welcomes participants of all ages, but a ticket-holding adult must accompany children under 12. If you want to leave the kiddos at home, purchase an add-on kit (more on that below)! The kits are great for kids at home, plus we will send you the class PowerPoint so you can teach them yourself!

The class will be at the Corvallis Community Center in Corvallis, Oregon, at 2601 NW Tyler Ave.

Nervous about the parking situation? Parking is straightforward. There are two dedicated parking lots beside the Community Center with plenty of space.

FAQ

What will I be doing in class?

Besides having the most fun ever? I will review some cookie facts and decorating techniques, and you will decorate your own set of cookies that you will take home that day.

Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?

Yes! Many parents or practicing cookie decorators purchase additional DIY class kits to take home and re-do the classes. This reinforces your learning. You can buy an add-on DIY kit during checkout. Your kit will be available at the end of your class, so don’t forget it!

Do I need to know how to bake?

Nope! No baking history is required. I will have the cookies pre-made for you and the icing already mixed and colored. Have a little decorating experience under your belt… er… apron? No problem! Come to class, and I can help with questions on your sticking points.

What will we learn in class?

You’ll learn what goes into preparing royal icing and the value of different icing consistencies. We’ll touch on tips and tricks to make your cookies look even better than they taste (and they taste so good)!

You’ll also learn different decorating tips and techniques, and an experienced instructor is available to guide you through each step and answer all your questions. Or hey, go off script and decorate as you wish—it’s your class!

What do I need to bring?

Nothing but a smile! Everything will be provided, including my (rather tasty) sugar cookies. All you need to do is join us and have fun!

Messy decorator? You can bring your apron or wear easy-to-wash clothing. There is a PowerPoint for reference, so if you wear glasses, I’d encourage you to bring them.

Oh – and bring your phone to take photos!

Can my child take the class alone?

Yes, for children over age 12, you can drop off your child to take the class and return to pick up at 11:45 a.m. Due to space restrictions, I do not have room for parents to stand by and watch their children in class – only ticket holders are allowed in the cookie room.

For children under 12, I ask that all parents attend the classes with their children, meaning a parent must also purchase a ticket and take the class. You’ll have a lot of fun and be glad you did.

What will I bring home?

By the end of the class, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry for 8-12 hours. I’ll send you my recipes and Amazon links with a list of the tools we used in class so that you can recreate these cookies at home. You’ll also go home with some new cookie-decorating skills!

Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?

You can sign up as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more, the merrier! We are limited to 10 seats per class, so sign up ASAP!

Do you teach private parties?

Yes! I bring the class to your private party or corporate event. Contact me for more information.

Where are the classes located?

This class will be held at Corvallis Community Center in Corvallis, Oregon, at 2601 NW Tyler Ave.

I signed up for a class but can’t make it; what can I do?

I understand that life happens, so I allow you to cancel up to 3 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend, though (and what a lovely friend you are).

Things to Bring

Are you wondering what you need to bring to decorate successfully? Nothing is required, but here is what I recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience.

Bring an apron! Working with royal icing can get messy, so grab an apron or wear clothing you don’t mind spilling on.

Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but seeing glasses may be a great bet if things get blurry far away or close up.

Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class, so bring a phone!

Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they’re also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.

About Your Instructor

Hi! I'm Valere, the owner and cookie artist at Corvallis Cookie Hugs. My cookie decorating journey began after I discovered how much I love cookie decorating through a class much like this one!

I learned that decorated cookies are the ultimate gift that can be made to suit any occasion, and people love receiving them!

I've lost count of the times I've heard people say they wanted to save their cookie gift, only to find themselves irresistibly drawn to eating them because their aroma is so enticing.

This class may be an experience that ignites your creativity and unlocks a new passion!

I will teach you what I wish I had known at the beginning of my journey.

After you learn how to decorate cookies, you'll never again guess what to give as a gift. Cookies can be decorated into anything your mind can imagine.

Cancelation / Refund / Sick Policy/ Weather Policy / Fees Disclaimer

**You must contact me BEFORE class begins to be considered for class credit or a refund.**

If you need to cancel attending a class, email me three days before class for (your choice of) a credit to a future class or a refund (minus Eventbrite's refund fee; see below). All cancellation requests made two days or less before class may pick up their decorating kit and use it at home or receive a credit to attend one of the following three classes I offer.

Showing Symptoms of Sickness?

Contact me BEFORE CLASS STARTS, and I will give you a credit for a future class you can use anytime within the following three classes.

If I do not hear from you before your class starts and you do not show up for class, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit, even if you’re sick. So please reach out to me before class!

Weather Policy: If it looks like Mother Nature is doing something to make travel unsafe, I’ll contact you with options – these may differ depending on the weather event, but rest assured – we’ll figure something out!

Class Cancellation Policy: As an event host, there could be a time when I have to cancel a class. In the extremely rare event that this happens, you’ll receive a 100% refund, including your Eventbrite fees.

Eventbrite Fees: Your ticket price includes ticket fees; however, Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket and request a refund before the cancelation window expires, I’ll happily give you a refund minus the Eventbrite fee – since I don’t get this fee back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel. I know – I hate it, too!

DIY / Add-On Kits

Order your sugar cookie class kit and retake the class at home or teach a child or friend!

These class kits come with everything you’ll use in class, and I’ll email you the class PowerPoint (after class) so you can follow our step-by-step instructions from home!

How long can a kit last? Use within a couple of days for the best results. If you'd like to postpone decorating for longer than a few days, your kit will freeze just fine. Just thaw well in advance before you'd like to decorate.

Besides having the most fun ever? I will be going over some cookie facts and decorating techniques, and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies that you will take home with you that day.

Can I purchase a DIY decorating kit to take home?

Yes! You can purchase a DIY decorating kit, retake the class, or teach a child or friend. The DIY kit will enhance what you learned in class. You can access the PowerPoint presentation to recreate these sweet treats at home.

Do I need to know how to bake?

No baking history is required. I will have the cookies pre-made for you and the icing already mixed and colored. You’ll likely have icing left over from class that you can use for additional practice at home without even baking a cookie! I’ll explain how to do this in class.

Our in-person classes are great for any age; however, children under 12 also need a parent to take them. If you think your child may be too young to enjoy the in-person class, purchase a DIY take-home kit! I'll send you the class PowerPoint, and you can teach your children in your home.
