This full day session includes both classroom and hands on training, focusing on how to recognize, anticipate, and prevent hazards in and around an excavation site and the safe operations of a backhoe. Participants will also be provided with knowledge on soil composition and analysis, how to plan a trenching job, and the responsibilities of a Trenching Competent Person and a Backhoe Operator.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Understand the technical and stability aspects of backhoe operations
Understand how to identify workplace hazards
Identify and understand the causes of backhoe accidents
Identify the major parts and components of a backhoe
Demonstrate how to conduct a workplace and pre-use equipment inspection
Demonstrate through a practical “hands on” evaluation, the safe operation of a backhoe
Successfully complete a written exam of course study materials

Those who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Training Wallet Card. Please note this is not a Hoisting License class. Please contact RIDLT for information on who needs to hold a Hoisting License, and how to obtain one.

Who Should Attend: Anyone who works around excavation sites and/or operates a backhoe, or any supervisor responsible for such employees.
