Tarscape is an exhibition where artists explore the expressive potential of bitumen—a dense, black industrial material typically used in road construction. By using it in fine art, they challenge traditional views of landscape and materiality. Bitumen’s organic texture evokes themes of nature, decay, memory, and transformation, linking environmental and historical concerns. The artists’ experimental process with bitumen—its reactions, textures, and unpredictability—becomes integral to the artwork. Tarscape reimagines landscape as a space of emotion, critique, and reflection, encouraging viewers to consider how unconventional materials can reshape both artistic expression and our perception of the world.
