This event will be held both in-person at the School of Visual Arts (136 West 21st St, 4th FL Room 418F) and on Zoom. Doors open at 6:30PM. The meeting will start at 7PM.
April Anderson is a photographer, videographer, editor and "Head Instigator" behind the Art As Air Project. Together with husband Martin Chytil, they explore the processes behind creativity, showcasing artists, life adventurers and issues facing our world in the words and images of those who are in the front lines of change. The goal is outreach within communities of all genres and genders in order to create a "world archive," shining a light upon unity, passion and connection.
April is the cinematographer/director/editor and Martin is the aerial photographer and sound designer for their award-winning documentary films; Beyond The Paint, Tails of Iceland and a 2022 documentary release called Fire & Iceland, which is the story of the 2021 Fagradalsfjall volcanic eruption that fascinated the rest of the world, bringing thousands of people to Iceland to experience it during the six months it was active at the tail end of the first Covid-19 lock-down.
For A Wild Tomorrow was an awarded documentary release in 2024 that highlights the efforts and dedication of the creators and supporters of the non-profit organization Wild Tomorrow, who are actively involved in conservation of our endangered wildlife and their habitats by preserving, protecting and rewilding in South Africa. This and the two Iceland docs are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
A documentary short featuring the endangered Faroese horses and efforts to save the breed is slated for a 2025 release, along with another short about the New York City based Subway Therapy project spearheaded by creator Matt Chavez.
April covered events for the Songwriters Hall of Fame for 25 years as in-house photojournalist and as their Marketing/Communications Director and Deputy Secretary, as well as conceiving and editing opening video montages for their Annual Induction and Awards Galas. She continues as Archival Advisor of the photo and video archive she built for the organization during her previous tenure. Martin is an IT manager and both are dedicated to the Art As Air Project with all of the future adventures and documentary possibilities.
