Pentiment Series #6 bends time and genre. Brandon Seabrook’s contemporary banjo playing is juxtaposed with Period Piece, a historical performance collective. The evening culminates with the Pentiment Ensemble, bringing new and old instruments together to perform new works.

Featuring:

Brandon Seabrook

Brandon Seabrook is a NYC-based guitarist and banjoist. His music fuses a wide range of traditions: punk rock, jazz, pop, and metal. As a guitarist his work feeds off tactile sensations; rapid tremolo picking, contorted clusters, and extreme physicality. Rolling Stone Magazine noted, “The fiercely dexterous musician has launched a number of bands combining serious chops with manic intensity and a left- field compositional vision.” He has released ten albums of original material and has performed this music at festivals such as Jazz Em Agosto, Big Ears, Jazz Is Dead, Centro D’arte, Moers Festival, Angel City Jazz Festival, and bespattered DIY venues throughout the land. Along the way he has collaborated and recorded with Joey Arias, Cécile Mclorin Salvant, Anthony Braxton, David Byrne, Mike Watt, Ghost Train Orchestra, and Ingrid Laubrock among many others.

Period Piece

Period Piece, New York City's newest guerrilla early music performance collective, plays historical music on period instruments. Inhabiting a murky space between deep longing for an idealized past and irreverent sonic cosplay, Period Piece delivers uncanny entertainment, tailor-made for the age of mechanical reproduction: a deja vu of the mind's ear, stylishly catapulted from bygone eras right into your lap.

Pentiment Ensemble

The Pentiment Ensemble is the official ensemble in residence at Williamsburg Art & Historical Center. This group of players is populated by performers from past iterations of the Pentiment Series of new and experimental music. For this upcoming concert the group will perform music by WAH curator Steve Long, and Cleek Schrey.
