Gaysians is a heartfelt, uplifting portrait of four gay Asian friends coming of age in Seattle, full of melodrama, love, and friendship, highlighting important prejudices both within and without the LGBTQ community. Mike Curato's latest renders its hilarious, flamboyant, human protagonists with love and individuality, showing tenderly the particular joy of queer friendship and yearning.
Mike's YA graphic novel, Flamer, has been at the center of the banned books discussion for the past several years, and has been ranked fifth for most banned book in America. Mike has been at the forefront of the conversation, supporting free speech and LGBTQ rights in public appearances and media interviews. Gaysians extends many of the themes and nuanced depictions of LGBTQ life portrayed in Flamer and we expect serious media attention for the book.
