About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Take a dive into the world of 3D printing! In this two-hour class, we'll explain the terminology of 3D printing, how it works, and discuss the benefits and drawbacks, including live demonstrations and examples. If you walk in knowing nothing about 3D printing beyond the name, you should walk out with enough information to start your own 3D printing journey, either with Open Workshops or on your own!

Class registration includes a hands-on walkthrough and free 3D print up to 50g of filament any time during open shop hours in the two weeks after the class (printer availability permitting).

Our shop will be open after the class ends; stick around to take a tour or work on a project!

Frequently asked questions

What ages is this class suitable for?

This class is suitable for all ages, but is less hands-on and more informational than some of our workshops. As such, it might not keep the attention of younger audiences. Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do I need to sign a liability waiver?

All visitors coming to Open Workshops for the first time must sign a liability waiver prior to entering the shop. Attendees under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

What if I'm new to the subject?

Not a problem! This class assumes no prior knowledge of 3D printing - it starts at the basics and works up from there.

How can I redeem my free 3D print?

Just stop by the makerspace any time during our open hours! We'll walk you through the process of downloading and slicing a file and sending it to a printer. Depending on the size of the model, the print may take several hours, so you may need to come back to pick it up later if you can't wait.

How does the reduced-price registration work?

We’re happy to be able to offer a reduced-price tuition program, with the balance of the tuition paid by a generous grant from the Lei and Chen Family Foundation. For more information on reduced-price tuition, please refer to our website: https://www.open-workshops.com/classes-workshops
