About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Writers, poets, philosophers, and artists have written theories and created beautiful worlds that inspire us to live differently. Throughout the history of patriarchal racial capitalism, there have been stories that allude to a different way of being. In VOL’s monthly reading groups, we explore some of these histories and stories in community.

VOL’s May reading group will be on Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. This critical book introduces concepts like banking vs. problem-posing education, practice and praxis, and critical consciousness as guides on how we may challenge oppressive structures. Join us for a discussion on how developing our own consciousness and understanding of the world is a pathway to existing differently.

A digital copy of the book will be provided after registration.
