About this event

Please join us for the next Reading Community Gathering on Thursday, May 29, 2025, 6 p-8 p at Richmond Hill, 2209 East Grace Street in Richmond.

Our Reading Community has chosen to read White Poverty: How Exposing Myths About Race and Class Can Reconstruct American Democracy by Rev. Dr. William Barber with Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove. Described as a book that the authors examine how divisive racial narratives have historically impeded efforts to unify economically disadvantaged groups of all races in support of policies promoting economic fairness for all. Proposing a renewed movement grounded in moral solidarity, the authors assert that Americans of diverse backgrounds—united by shared economic hardships—have the power to reshape society through collective action. The book promises to provide reading for a meaningful discussion for all who attend.

We look forward to continuing to grow our community and making a difference in how we relate to each other in our daily lives.

The event is free, but does require registration on Eventbrite so that we can plan properly for the number of guests. Please register here for your ticket:
