CLASS DESCRIPTION:

The greatest news about learning to hand letter is that every single person has their own handwriting style, and that style - whether it’s a flowy script, edgy and all caps, or wonky and messy - add so much character to your hand lettered pieces. EVERYONE can learn to letter, no matter where you’re at with loving your own handwriting.

Join Billie Claire for part one of her two part Hand Lettering series - Modern Calligraphy and Creative Font Building. In this class, we will walk through the basics of modern calligraphy, brush lettering, and how to turn 3 basic fonts into a myriad of creative, awe-inspiring fonts. Billie Claire will provide instruction, practice guides, tips for how to tackle those tricky letters, and one-on-one guidance on how to adjust small elements to create wonderfully loud, flourishy, funky, and fun designs.

Hand Lettering Part 2: Layout and Composition

Interested in taking these skills to the next level? Join us for Hand Lettering Part Two: Layout and Composition on June 12th and learn how to apply these creative fonts to a design with a cohesive composition.

Students will take home a packet of tips and tricks, practice guides, and a selection of Billie Claire’s favorite illustration tools.

If you have taken Hand Lettering 101 with Billie Claire before - you are welcome to join for either of these classes! We will be diving much deeper into each topic and you will have more time in class to work through sketches, designs, and final drafts.

About the Instructor:

Billie Claire is a Richmond-based illustrator specializing in hand lettering, botanical illustrations, and graphic design. She loves making people laugh from the unexpected and enjoys pairing elegant florals with profanity and sass.

Originally from New Mexico and raised by a family of scientists, Billie Claire loves getting lost in nature, observing the tiniest details, and encouraging others to embrace their dark senses of humor. If she's not at a market or in her home studio, you can find her soaking up the sun on the James, eating cake at Shyndigz, or taking 5 million reference photos of flowers in her Church Hill neighborhood.
