About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

During this 90-minute workshop, our favourite neighbour Vee will lead us through a discussion of Natasha Hakimi Zapata's Another World is Possible: Lessons for America from Around the Globe. Each participant will pick a chapter focused on a transformative policy from another country and reflect on how the lessons from its implementation can be applied to local organizing in the United States. After the discussion, we will embark on an art journaling exercise to visualize our movement-building efforts.

Copies of Another World is Possible are available for purchase at Bol Coop. Please read any one chapter of your choosing ahead of our conversation!

If you are unable to purchase or access a copy, here are some options for you to read your chosen chapter before the event:

  • Stop by Bol (when Creative Grounds is open) before the event and peruse a copy from our collection at your leisure
  • Arrive an hour before the event begins (5:30 pm, as the event begins at 6:30 pm)— we'll have copies on hand for you to borrow
  • Email info@bol.coop and we can send you a scan of the chapter of your choosing

We are a group of activists, educators, workers with a shared goal of establishing Bol; a worker-owned cafe, bookstore, and event space in Washington DC. The word Bol means speak in Urdu and Hindi. Bol Cafe will set itself apart from other bookstore cafes by adopting the worker-owned cooperative business model and is based on the ideals of racial justice and economic democracy. We aim to serve as a model for creating wealth in the community by becoming a destination for DC residents who are interested in social justice, engaging conversations, reading groups, and stimulating talks in a relaxing atmosphere. The storefront image above is a rendering but your support can make it real.
