About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Instructor: Janie Mininger

Class Description:

Have you thought how cool it’d be to learn to spin wool fiber and make yarn with a spinning wheel? I will bring my wheels, and let you try it out; you’ll soon be spinning away!!

No experience necessary; or maybe you just need a refresher course.. anyone is welcome.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

basic principles of the spinning wheel

Wool characteristics and how to draft wool

Spin a ‘single’ yarn

Wind your yarn off on a niddy-noddy

learn to make a 2-ply yarn (If time permits)

The instructor will provide several ounces of fiber to spin in class; BFL roving from her flock.

BFL (Blue Face Leicester) is a fantastic fiber for spinning.

There will be a $20 materials fee collected by the instructor at the beginning of class.

Janie says: "If you have your own functional wheel, please bring it. If you have a question about your wheel not functioning properly, email me before class and I’ll see if a simple fix may solve it so you can use it in class! Otherwise you will be welcome to use one of mine!"

The instructor's email address will be provided upon request after registering for class.

This is a three hour session, 9-12.

A second three hour session will be 1-4. Please consider registering for both sessions to have a full day spinning experience.

Please note that a minimum number of particpants need to register. If the minimum is not meant the class may be canceled.
