Peer Talk is a youth leadership and civic engagement program created by 7th grade students at Willie Brown Middle School, located in San Francisco's Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood.
Bayview-Hunters Point is a vibrant, resilient community that has endured decades of underinvestment - limited transportation access, inequitable educational opportunities, and gaps in citywide services. Despite these challenges, the community continues to thrive through deep civic engagement, grassroots leadership, and a spirit of self-determination.
Peer Talk responds to this reality by equipping students with the tools to research, question, and publicly tell the stories that shape their world. Through live podcast interviews with civic leaders, cultural innovators, and community advocates, students develop critical communication skills, media literacy, public speaking confidence, and a deeper understanding of their role in shaping the future of San Francisco.
At its heart, Peer Talk transforms middle school students from passive learners into active civic participants-developing San Francisco's next generation of community builders, public leaders, and cultural ambassadors.
Bob Fisher is an American businessman who is the current chairman of Gap Inc. and has been a director since 1990; he was previously chairman of the board (2004–2007) and interim chief executive officer.
