Like a beautiful tapestry, America has a rich, colorful heritage of music that reflects the diversity of our people. The history of music in the United States includes many styles of folk, popular and classical music. Some of the best-known genres of American music are rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel, spirituals, country, rock and roll and pop. Allegro's Spring Concert, "American Tapestry of Song" celebrates the impressive variety of backgrounds and experiences of our American people.
The St. Louis Legend Singers are special guests of Allegro Chorus for this concert. The ensemble, founded in 1940 by Dr. Kenneth Billups, is currently led by Director Emeritus Dr. Doris Jones, and Maestro Dwayne Buggs. The Legend Singers ensemble has received local and national acclaim and continues in its mission to perform and preserve the indigenous music of African Americans with an emphasis on sprituals, Jazz and serious sacred and secular choral music.
Allegro's concerts are family friendly and free. We want you all to come and experience the joy of the music we have worked hard to share with you. We do count on your support and donations to continue our legacy of freely sharing music with the St. Louis community. And so, when you reserve your seats for this concert, please make a donation to the chorus. A suggestion of $20/person is encouraged. You may offer a donation through Eventbrite or you may donate in person at the concert. Please contribute as you are able.
Come join us for a musical journey through the rich tapestry of American songs!
