A program featuring Les Six - Auric, Durey, Honegger, Milhaud, Poulenc, Tailleferre.

Les Nouveaux Jeunes was named by Erik Satie as the forerunner to Les Six. Satie was a huge influence and mentor for this group of composers. It centered around - Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, and Germaine Tailleferre. In the early 1920s in France, there was a wave of nationalism after the first world war, as well as, a dislike for anything German due to invasion of France by the Germans in 1914. Wagner, Debussy, Stravinsky were considered old school and not interesting by the emerging artists. This group of composers was connected through the Paris Conservatory, Schola Cantorum and private study in Paris in the 1910s. Jean Cocteau was the catalyst for Les Six Français.

Dr. Scott Donald and Dr. Carla McElhaney first met while in graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin. They are both faculty at Studio A, an independent music studio and performance venue in Austin. This performance brings together two artists that are committed to unique music experiences and immersive music-making.

One World, One Music is a concert series featuring cultural music from around the globe. It is through our shared love of music that we are able to foster a kindred spirit of understanding and respect of where we come from and where we are going as inhabitants of our one world. These concerts all take place in our intimate 'listening room" which feels like a hybrid between a living room and a concert hall. Themed food and beverage is also included in the ticket price for all events.
