YOUTH Mental Health First Aid
What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course will provide you with the skills and confidence to assist young people aged 11 to 18, who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or mental health crisis, until the crisis resolves or professional help is accessed, using a practical evidence-based action plan.
Who is this course for?
Anyone who wants to learn how to recognise warning signs of mental distress in our rangitahi, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support them keeping yourself safe.
This course trains you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. You will learn how to:
Understand the mental health challenges young people experience.
Source options for treatments and provide helpful first aid strategies.
Be confident to offer MHFA, enabling early access to help.
Apply the ALGEE - the five step action plan.
The workshop is delivered over two days by a qualified Youth MHFA instructor. Our current Instructor for this is Julia Grace.
On completion of the two days, participants are issued access to an online portal to where they can complete a short quiz and download their personalised accreditation certificate (valid for 3 years).
