LEARNING PROGRAMS:

1. Intermediate Math Foundations Program (Grades 7 - 8)
2. Grade 9 Preparation Program - Acceleration
3. Grade 11 University Program (Grade 10 Remediation and 11 University Acceleration)

Each program is created by a certified Intermediate/Senior Math Educator & Mentor with almost 20 years of classroom experience teaching within one of the largest public school boards in Ontario and is based on a pedagogical framework that merges the science of Mathematical Learning, the Brain & Mindset.

The objective of each program is to empower and educate learners in Math in order to connect them to their Inner Genius, sharpen their mathematical reasoning skills, and accelerate their Mathematical learning so that they empowered to optimize their learning outcomes in any Math course they take.

In addition, each program is aligned with the Ontario Mathematics Grades 7 - 11 curriculum and will also provide personalized academic coaching and mentorship based on the specific academic goals and needs of each leaner; focusing specifically in the areas of executive functioning, time & stress management, organization, S.M.A.R.T goal-setting, and study skills strategies.

Learners will meet three times per week for 60 minutes in our 6-Weeks program, and twice per week for 60-minutes for our 8-Week program; with the option of private 1-on-1 sessions for those learners who would like to deepen their understanding of specific concepts and skills.

Following are the details of each of program:

6-Weeks Math Foundations Program - (Grade 7 and 8)

The objective of this program is to strengthen basic numeracy and algebra skills as these form the foundation for Senior Math courses. Mastering these Fundamental skills is imperative in order for students to optimize their learning outcomes in the senior Maths courses they will take in Grades 9 – 12. The Intermediate Maths Fundamentals program will meet twice weekly for 60 minutes and will cover:

• Fractions (adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing)
• Number Sets
• Integers
• Order of Operations
• Basic Algebra & Solving Simple Equations
• Exponents & Exponent Rules

8-Weeks Grade 9 Preparation Program

The Grade 9 Preparation Program is designed to ensure that students entering Grade 9 in September 2024 are prepared for high school math and the new de-streamed curriculum. The objective is for students to master the key skills they need to know before entering Grade 9 in order to maximize their academic achievement when they take the course. The units of study will include:

• Numeracy
• Geometry
• Algebra
• Ratios
• Rates and Proportions
• Linear Functions
• Financial Literacy
• Data Management

8-Weeks Grade 11 U Preparation Program - (Grade 10 Academic Remediation & 11 University Acceleration)

The Algebra 1 Program is a Remediation and Acceleration program that covers the Grade 10 Academic and Grade 11 University Ontario & North American Common core Math curriculum. It is designed for students who have either taken the Grade 10D or Grade 11U Math courses in Ontario, or the Algebra 1 North American Common Core course, and would like to strengthen their understanding/skills in order to prepare for the next course level in the new academic year; or for students who will be taking these courses in the future and would like to master the key skills they need to know prior to taking the course. This program will cover topics including;

• Linear Functions
• Linear Systems
• Geometry
• Quadratics
• Trigonometry
• Radicals
• Exponential Functions
• Transformations
• Trigonometric Functions

Evidence-Based Framework:

The pedagological framework for all of our programs uses an evidence-based approach that merges the science of Mathematics education, the Brain and Mindset, known as Mathematical Mindset Coaching. This cutting edge pedagological approach teaches students how How to Learn Math in an empowered and proactive way by cultivating a Mathematical Growth Mindset, which has been found to increase students' achievement in Mathematics by a letter or Level grade. The first week of each Program will be focused on cultivating a Mathematical Mindset by teaching students how to optimize their ability to learn Mathematics deeply and at high levels in an empowered and proactive way.

Contemporary research in Mathematics Education and Brain Science has revealed that there are 8 fundamental principles that should infuse Mathematics teaching and learning to ensure that students are connected to their Inner Genius in order to maximize their achievement in Math. These 8 principles allow for the cultivation of 6 key student attitudes that are necessasry for optimizing student success. These include:

• Interest in figuring out solutions to problems;
• Willingness to persevere when solutions are not immediate;
• Ability to check solutions by solving problems in a different way;
• Understanding that incorrect answers are valuable for learning, and therefore, being willing to make mistakes;
• Ability to accept the frustration that comes with not knowing;
• Understanding and accepting that there is a difference between not knowing the answer and not having figured it out yet.

Through interactive and innovative strategies infused in each program, learners will learn about these 8 priniciples and how to cultivate these 6 Student Attitudes within themselves, sharpen their number sense and math literacy skills, and learn how to empower their mathematical learning experience so that they are able to level up their achievement in any Mathematics course that they take.

Meet the Teacher - S. Charles-Herrera, B.A., M.A., B.Ed., OCT

The Unleash Your Inner Genius: Mathematical Mindset & Skills Learning Program was created and is facilitated by Ms. Sanya Charles-Herrera (Ms. Sanya), who is a certified Intermediate/Senior Math Educator & Mentor that is passionate about empowering her students to realize their highest potential in Mathematics and beyond. In order to achieve this passion, Ms. Sanya specializes in merging the science of Mathematical Learning, the Brain and Mindset to connect studnets to their Inner Genius so that they are able to optimize their learning outcomes in Mathematics. Using her 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics in the classroom to a diverse range of learners in the Toronto District School Board and the GTA community, Ms. Sanya has designed a program based on a pedagogy of active engagement, extensive teaching experience, and sound innovative research. Withoug a doubt, each leaner that enrolls in any of the programs offered will not only learn invaluable information about their potential to succeed in Math, but will also be empowered to maximize their acdemich achievment in any Math course they choose to take.
