Darwin Celtic Music Sessions play a variety of Irish, Scottish, American and Gypsy tunes. We offer monthly workshops in traditional genres.

About this event

Bring your instrument along and enjoy learning something new from a range of traditional music genres and instructors. All workshops begin at 2pm and finish no later than 4pm.

Coming up in 2024, we have:


SATURDAY FEBRUARY 10: Lou Elliot (fiddle) will get us going this year by teaching a traditional Irish tune by ear.

SATURDAY MARCH 9: Melody O'Meara (fiddle) will teach an Orkney tune by Jennifer Wrigley, the 'godmother of Orkney fiddle'. Find out more at https://jenniferwrigley.com/ and have a listen at her Youtube channel.

SATURDAY APRIL 13: Louie Boyle-Bryant will teach a traditional Irish slip jig called Elizabeth Kelly’s Delight.

SATURDAY MAY 18: Top End Folk Club superstar Griffin makes his tune teaching debut with ‘Dandy Denny Cronin’ - an Irish fiddle tune he learnt from Ado Barker at traditional music camp Stringmania in Victoria last year.


No workshop in June due to the Top Half Folk Festival. See you in Alice Springs!

All new players are welcome. Please bring along your instrument. All instruments are welcome but please note that instructors may only be able to provide advice specific about their main instrument. Sheet music/dots/chord charts will be made available at the end of each workshop.
