HOUSE NEST: een co-creatieproject met Chantal van Rijt

Achter de schermen van Kunsthal Extra City vinden we vele gangen, hokjes, hoekjes en kieren. Het is daar waar kleine wezens ongestoord hun nesten bouwen. Tijdens HOUSE NEST, een co-creatieproject met Chantal Van Rijt, gaan we deze ruimtes exploreren en staan we stil bij de wezens waar we onze omgeving mee delen. We zullen materialen verzamelen die we tegenkomen, spullen die zich in de loop der tijd hebben opgestapeld in de vergeten hoeken. Hiermee maken we onze eigen versie van een nest, dat in Kunsthal Extra City zal huisvesten en tijdelijk deel uitmaakt van de tentoonstelling ‘Periphery’.

‘Periphery’ is een semi-permanente tentoonstelling die bestaat uit verschillende creatieopdrachten vanuit Kunsthal Extra City. Het is een traag evoluerend project waarbij de kunsthal samenwerkt met kunstenaars om haar niet-neutrale locatie te bevragen, activeren en onderzoeken. De site-specifieke kunstwerken krijgen een plek in zijbeuken, vergeten achterkamers, verscholen tussenruimtes en op het balkon, waar ze in alle beslotenheid tot bloei kunnen komen. Het werk dat gemaakt wordt tijdens HOUSE NEST, zal in conversatie gaan met de werken die hier in de tentoonstelling staan.

HOUSE NEST wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met Stad Antwerpen voor Erfgoeddag.

Behind the scenes of Kunsthal Extra City, there are many corridors, cubicles, nooks and crannies. Here is where small creatures build their nests undisturbed. During HOUSE NEST, a co-creation project with Chantal Van Rijt, we will explore these spaces and reflect on the creatures we share our environment with. We will collect materials we come across; things that have accumulated over time in forgotten corners. With these, we will create our own version of a nest, which will be housed at Kunsthal Extra City and will temporarily be part of the exhibition 'Periphery'.

'Periphery' is a semi-permanent exhibition consisting of several creation commissions from Kunsthal Extra City. It is a slowly evolving project in which the art hall collaborates with artists to question, activate and explore its non-neutral location. The site-specific artworks are given a place in side aisles, forgotten back rooms, tucked-in interstices and on the balcony, where they can blossom in privacy. The work created during HOUSE NEST will converse with the works on display here.
