Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
Does this activity help my students learn? Will this intervention support equity-deserving groups in my classes? How does X influence group dynamics during small group projects? Inquisitive and dedicated instructors ask themselves such questions regularly.
Scholarship of Teaching & Learning Symposium (SoTL) is about systematically investigating such questions, and then sharing those answers broadly to enlighten others who teach.
SoTL is by nature a multi-disciplinary endeavor. Carrying out SoTL research has similarities with and differences from your discipline’s scholarly practices. The UNB SoTL Institute will help you develop as a SoTL scholar by introducing you to the process of conceiving, carrying out, and sharing the results of a SoTL study.
The first two days of the Symposium will take the form of instructional workshops about the different stages of a SoTL project, such as developing a question, choosing a methodology, getting ethics clearance, generating and analyzing data, and disseminating.
On the third day, there will be additional time for participants to focus on developing their projects, culminating in a poster session during which participants will give and receive feedback about their plans.
