REQUIESCAT; REBIRTH

Come join us for a special event at Young United Church where we will explore themes of renewal and transformation. Requiescat; Rebirth is a recital of songs exploring life's cyclical nature. Megan Dufrat will join Winnipeg-born and Montreal-based tenor, Kyle Briscoe to present works by Brahms, Chausson, Tosti, Hailstork, and Emery alongside original folk songs. Kyle is thrilled to share new repertoire studied during the first half of his M.Mus at McGill's Schulich School of Music through the lens of something everyone can relate to: entering life's newest chapter. Kyle is honoured to perform this recital with his longtime collaborator and dear friend, Megan. As a twist to a typical voice recital, Kyle will pair performances of his folk pop-music to provide a pseudo translation of the non-English language repertoire. Poetic translations and program notes will also be provided. Proceeds will be donated to The Rainbow Harmony Project and The Rainbow Resource Centre.

Get ready to experience a night filled with music, art, and community. Classical music is for everyone; come as you are! Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with others and nourish your soul. This music is a universal language that connects and heals us all. Tickets are pay what you can with reccomended pricing.

We are extremely grateful for our presenting sponsor, Manitoba Opera!

Special thanks also goes to The Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg, our Musicians' sponsor.

Lastly, we would like to thank Young United Church for providing our venue in-kind for the event.

*Tax receipts can not be provided. Final donations will be anounced and made after the event.

Kyle Briscoe is blazing his trail as a queer interdisciplinary artist focusing on opera performance and his love of pop music. Recent highlights include singing the role of Oscar in Manitoba Underground Opera's production of Rocking Horse Winner, “Secret Chord,” a Leonard Cohen Tribute concert most recently performed in Kingston Ontario, and making his Messiah soloist debut with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in December 2023.

In the Fall of 2023, Kyle began his studies towards an M.Mus in Opera and Voice from McGill University in Montréal studying under John Mac Master. In his short time at the Schulich School of Music, Kyle has appeared as a soloist with the Schulich Singers in their performance of Adolphus Hailstork’s “I Will Lift Mine Eyes,” performed a recital of Brahms and Chausson songs respectively as part of Michael McMahon’s song interpretation class, appeared in Opera McGill’s production of Sondheim at Segal and covered the role of Prince Ramiro in La Cenerentola. Kyle achieved a B.Mus. in vocal performance at the Desautles Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba while studying under Mel Braun. Kyle was featured in the Winnipeg Free Press in “Survival Songs,” (August 2023) and was a guest on CBC’s Now or Never podcast (September 2023) where he was invited to discuss his unique career and share his music live on the air (“There are many great singers in pop, but Briscoe’s precise voice, honed by hours of training at the U of M and other lessons — contrasts greatly from the breathy vocals that have dominated the charts in recent years” - Alan Small, Winnipeg Free Press).

Kyle released his first single, "What A Time" in November 2022 and released his debut EP "LESSONS" in July 2023. His most recent single, "FLY AWAY," was released on leap day 2024. Kyle has performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (Solomon), Manitoba Opera, Manitoba Underground Opera, Little Opera Company, Opera McGill, Dead of Winter, Canzona, PolyCoro, the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, and the Winnipeg Singers.
