About this event

Oral cancer screening and early detection in lesser-resourced countries – a pilot project

In South Asia, oral cancer is common and often fatal due to advanced stage at diagnosis. Palliative Care is rarely available and often not effective in reducing the pain associated with this cancer.

Lessons learned in Two Worlds Cancer’s pilot project in rural India are informing ongoing initiatives in Nepal and other South Asian countries. Oral cancer is preventable and readily curable with existing treatments if detected early through safe, quick, painless and non-invasive technology. Our pilot project, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Centre for Palliative Care and dental colleges in Telangana, provided training in the use of this technology. The pilot project revealed between two and five percent of the subjects in the rural community had oral cancer or early, asymptomatic indications requiring further investigation or treatment.

Dr. Puneet Bains, medical oncologist and Two Worlds Cancer vice-president, will host the webinar joined by lead investigators Denise Laronde, PhD and Sandra Broughton, MA.

Please keep a watch on our social media and website for updates. We look forward to you joining us virtually at the conference!
