The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) assists victims, immediate family members and some witnesses in coping with the effects of a violent crime; including victims of physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse.
Since 2024, eligible applicants are allowed up to $135 per counselling session. This amount may cover the full cost of a single session run by a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) assists victims, immediate family members and some witnesses in coping with the effects of a violent crime; including victims of physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse.
What

Why
A crime is stressful and can trigger many feelings and emotions. The CVAP program provides:
- Counselling and Support: The CVAP program provides funding for trauma-informed therapy to the victims of the crime, so they may cope and recover from the emotional/mental aftermath of what they have experienced.
- Access to Resources: Accessing appropriate resources after a crime is crucial. The CVAP program provides guidance and connects folks to a range of resources including legal advocacy, housing support and referral to community organizations.
- Financial Assistance: There is financial assistance to help victims cover expenses related to the crime like medical bills, lost wages or other costs resulting from the crime.
- Navigating the Justice System: There is significant support for victims of a crime to navigate the Criminal Justice System; understand their rights and participate in court proceedings if they chose to do so.
- Empowerment and Advocacy: The CVAP program empowers victims to advocate for themselves with the support of specializd CVAP advocates. This team helps victims assert their rights and navigate the complexities of seeking justice and restitution.
