About this event

This event held by the Healthy Environments and Lives (HEAL) Network will provide an opportunity for stakeholders of the HEAL ACT Community of Practice to discuss emerging priorities and topics for environmental health in the ACT including:

  • Health system climate resilience and carbon footprint
  • Bushfire and air quality resilience, wood heaters, transport (e.g. electrification)
  • Resilience and sustainability of built environments, e.g. heat resilience, flood resilience, energy efficiency/carbon footprint, indoor environmental quality, greenspace, rental homes

This meeting between of the HEAL ACT Community of Practice will include an opening address from the ACT Minister for the Environment, Rebecca Vassarotti and an update from the HEAL ACT Hub leader, Professor Sotiris Vardoulakis.

This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring:

  • Angela Cartwright, Policy Manager at Asthma Australia
  • Tyson Powell, Caring for Country team leader at Ginninderry Conservation Trust
  • Prof Simon Haberle, expert in atmospheric pollen and related air quality issues at the Australian National University

A workshop session for all participants will follow the panel, then lunch and networking will conclude the event (food and refreshments will be provided).

The HEAL Network is a coalition of researchers, professionals from government and policy, NGOs, community groups, health practitioners, and experts in the environmental health fields. It aims to address the health impacts from climate and environmental change through targeted, co-designed research and translation into policy and practice.
