About this event

Join the Canadian Municipal Network on Crime Prevention (CMNCP) and partners for a training session on evaluation and monitoring in crime prevention and community safety.

This full-day, in-person training will be held on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, in Regina, Saskatchewan. The training precedes our 2023 conference which begins the evening of October 23rd (following the training session) and runs through October 25th. Please note, a discounted rate will be offered to training participants who have also registered for the conference.

ABOUT THE TRAINING

This interactive, hands-on training will be delivered by experts in the field of crime prevention and community safety (see below for bios). It is designed to support practitioners in monitoring and evaluating programs related to community safety and well-being, crime prevention, as well as gun and gang violence prevention.

Topics addressed in the training session include:

  • Foundations of evaluation
  • Evaluation objectives and roles
  • Evaluation questions
  • Evaluation indicators
  • Evaluation design
  • Data collection
  • Communicating evaluation findings

Specific learning outcomes include:

  • How to conduct an evaluation when programs are conceptualized broadly.
  • Identifying what to measure and how to align diverse and/or inconsistent measures.
  • Drawing links to population-level data based on short term investments.
  • How to engage stakeholders in evaluation (e.g., community partners/programs).

Upon completion of the training, participants will be well-equipped to develop, support, implement, and participate in evaluations related to community safety, crime prevention, and gun and gang prevention programs.

  • Training only: $350 per ticket*

FACILITATORS

Melanie Bania , Project Manager - CMNCP (bio to come).

Holly Hallborg is a Project Manager at the REACH Edmonton Council for Safe Communities. She has worked at REACH Edmonton since its inception over a decade ago. Her focus at REACH started with youth initiatives that focused on addictions prevention and engagement in community safety. In 2012, she began managing the WrapED youth gang prevention initiative, and then transitioned into a leadership role for 4 years. Now her focus is more project-based, where she works closely with the REACH team on diverse community safety and well-being initiatives in the areas of Out of School Time programming, human trafficking and youth gang prevention.

Felix Munger joined CMNCP in 2015. He brings experience as a mental health and addiction clinician, program planner, and evaluator. He has over 20 years of experience facilitating evaluations, strategic planning, priority setting, and collaboration building across Canada with a wide range of stakeholders including equity-deserving and Indigenous communities. Originally trained as a psychiatric nurse, he has experience in community safety, organizational collaboration, addiction (including harm reduction), EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion), and organizational capacity development. He holds a master’s degree in environmental studies and a PhD in community psychology.
