About this event

Employment in 2030 Atlantic Regional Workshop

The Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC) and the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship (BII+E) invite you to participate in a full-day interactive workshop to forecast the changes of skills and occupations in 2030.

Date: May 13, 2019

Time: 8:30 - 5pm (participants must be able to attend the full day)

Location: Signal Hill Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, NL

Currently, Canada lacks a holistic, detailed, and actionable forecast of in-demand skills, and of the distribution of these skills across geographies, industries, and demographic groups. Governments, educators and Canadians, in general, are seeking a clearer picture of the skills that will help to future-proof workers in the face of complex forces ranging from automation and offshoring to digitalization.

With support from the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Initiative Program and the Max Bell Foundation, we are working with BII+E and Nesta, a UK-based innovation foundation, to fill critical gaps in Canada's labour market information. Employment in 2030 will help to fill critical gaps in Canada's labour market information by providing a detailed occupational and skills demand forecast that is responsive to changing labour market conditions across Canada. To learn more about the project visit BII+E’s website.

Your insight on changes impacting Canada’s labour market, in addition to expert insights from 5 other workshops across Canada, will form the training data required for machine learning algorithms that will allow us to project changes across the entire labour market.

As an attendee you’ll have a unique opportunity to participate in this innovative research study, playing a critical role to:

• Inform research on labour market information and impact the design of national education, training, and economic development policies and programs

• Contribute to a national skills forecast that will be disseminated to Canadian educators, policymakers, workers and firms
