Frequently asked questions

Are there bathroom facilities at the event?

There is, if needed, but please try to use the facilities prior to departing on your trip.

Is it safe?

Honey bees are tame, and when treated carefully and with respect, generally keep to their hive and within 1 meter of their hive when a hive inspection is done. You can choose how close or far from the hive you'd like to be, depending on your comfort level.

Is there parking?

Please park to the left of the driveway, if there is space. If not, please park across the road, on Paradise Valley Road.

Is protective equipment available for guests to wear?

All guests will be provided with a protective bee suit with veil covering their face, and gloves to cover their hands and arms. Various sizes are available. It is recommended to wear high topped shoes/boots and close toed shoes without holes.

How should I prepare for the tour?

Please wear light colored clothing made with light weight fabric. It can be hot in the bee suits, and our tours are usually in full sun or part sun/shade. Bring water to hydrate as needed, as well as any snacks you may need.

What happens if the weather is poor?

In poor weather like heavy rain or wind, a tour may need to be rescheduled. If this is the case, you will be notified by email at least one day prior to the tour, and an opportunity to reschedule will be provided. It is encouraged to reschedule your tour, refunds may be provided in a case by case.

Is there space to explore the property or surrounding area?

If you'd like to extend your stay, or explore surrounding areas, please do so in publicly provided areas such as at the Cheakamus River bridge or local trails past the Squamish Fish Hatchery. Our favorite hike is the hike up to Brohm lake. Access is just past the Hatchery.

What will be offered during a tour?

We start our tours with a brief introduction, and greeting. There is time to take photos and don a bee suit and gloves next to the apiary. We then go into the hive area, open a couple hives and explore the inner workings of a hive. Our tours end with a honey tasting, and a refreshment in our garden.

Are children and families welcome at your tour?

Families are welcome to come and explore! Children aged 5 and under are free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. If you are bringing children age 5 and under, please specify in your order, and we will send you the corresponding number of complimentary tickets.

Is there a play area for children?

Families are expected to stay together during a tour. Your child is welcome to take a break from a hive inspection, but must stay with an accompanied adult. Rest areas are located next to the apiary and in our garden viewing area. Beyond this area, the property is not open for visitors to explore.
