About this event

  • 3 hours

We created Common Sense because we dislike networking but love connecting. Talking to interesting people who are interested in us. If we couldn't find this then others must be having the same issue.

We eliminated everything people dislike about conventional networking to make an intimate, highly curated invitation-only experience and community. Complete with a connection framework designed to accelerate the building of relationships and mutual understanding without being “sold to.” This is Un-Networking.

It’s Common Sense yet almost every other networking event doesn’t understand the audience attending. Who they are as a person or what’s most important to them. People want to work with those that they like, and to like someone you must know them. The stronger the relationship the more connected you are. The more connected you become the longer business relations will last. We understand you are more than what you and celebrate and showcase this. We don’t guarantee leads we enhance relationships.

We remove the uncertainty around who you should be introduced to and why. We eliminate superficial small-talk like “So what do you do” to go beyond the mundane talk about COVID, sports, or house prices. We focus on ensuring everyone quickly builds deep connections and high levels of trust. You will not be met with hundreds of business cards thrown at you or a room of people selling, and no one listening. We call this Business Relations (BR). We are told we are different. We like to think everyone should receive this level of respect.

Our promise is that at each Common Sense event you attend, you will leave us more inspired energised, connected, and motivated than when you walked in.

*When was the last event you attended that offered this kind of promise?

Who Attends These Events:

This lunch is for CIO and IT experts, leaders, thinkers and strategists who want to:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and innovation
  • Connect and collaborate with the best IT minds in Victoria
  • Increase their influence in the industry
  • Learn what software/hardware works and the best suppliers from people who already use them
  • Learn how to deal with suppliers, internal management and customers in such a demanding role

Pedigree of our Club:

Respected members of our community who have attended one or more of the Common Sense events include:

Jordan Bagnoux: A fantastic husband with four kids under five is a man who has great closing powers. He has one of the best man caves with his whisky fridge as well as cars on hoists for him to work on. He also has a full McDonald's playground for the kids. Jordan has a true passion for automobiles and has been a major reason for the expansion of Cooldrive and all the issues that growing multiple stores has here and internationally. Studied at Monash Uni, Jordan is very focused but offsets this with a good sense of humour. He has organised charity walks for Oxfam and is always looking at giving back.

Marc Warshall: Keen whisky collector; he is into the 4 figures for bottles stored. He brews his own beer and goes so far as to become an apiarist to sweeten his beer. Marc studied as an accountant at Monash before finding the dark arts of IT. He works with robots at Creature Technology which is a world-leading managing time zones all over the world as well as multiple investor requirements and technological issues that entails. While not watching Sci-Fi he is raising his young son with his great wife.

Alan Hodgson: Started in sales before finding his way in the IT world. Alan moved several years ago to a small farm outside Castlemaine and commuted in so was doing remote work well before Covid took over. He has adult children with his daughter heading to Yale. Is married to a passionate South American. He has a dream of owning the local pub. He has a very dry sense of humour and a great brain with the experience to have great conversations. Having made all the telecommunications decisions for one of the country's largest networks while managing US requirements he has many skills.

Finbar O'Hanlon: Partner for 20+ years and lover of smooshie twinkle toes Musician and on the Les Paul foundation CTO to many local and international companies and founder of Linius ASX: LNU he created the code for some amazing technology. One of the great thinkers as well as one of the world's best guitarists. Fin has great energy and time but most of all helps people to think differently.

Reviews & Feedback: Some feedback from some of the guys who have attended our events:

"I needed this, I haven't laughed so hard in ages"

"When is the next one, I'm booking in now!"

Can Anyone Attend This Lunch?

Business is, and will always be about relationships. People you know, like and trust. Our aim is to create the environment that allows for greater connection to a person, not a job title. People who are committed to bringing true value to their peers and company. To foster a culture of responsibility, innovation, service and authenticity. To enable both profit in personal awareness and a financial return Work is a mindset. Would you do what you are doing, with the people you are doing it with for free and have a life fulfilled?

Squabbling over too little is a scarcity mentality. An abundant mindset sets you free to be the best version of yourself.
