Community Health Promotion Unit, SMC Health System

Welcome to San Mateo County Health System's Community Health Promotion Unit Prevention Training Academy! Stay tuned for 2018-2019 training sessions beginning in October 2018.

What is the Prevention Training Academy? The focus of the training academy is to build capacity of local organizations, community groups and county staff in primary prevention, defined as interventions that are applied before any disease or harm exists. Training topics include policies to reduce access to substances, social norm change, and other environmental prevention strategies to reduce access to alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drugs. The Prevention Training Academy applies a public health lens and actively incporporate the social determinants of health and their root causes into trainings.
