Norfolk Community Services Board Prevention
Mental health professionals provide speakers, facilitate in-service trainings, education, presentations, and outreach to the community at large on issues pertaining to mental health, substance abuse, violence, parenting skills, social skills, and other pertinent topics.
Prevention Coordinators take an active role in educating the residents of the City of Norfolk about issues related to substance abuse, violence and mental health. They educate the community on a variety of topics which promote health and wellness.
Topics can include, but are not limited to, substance abuse, depression, achieving your goals, coping skills, grief, conflict resolution, depression, suicide, and bullying. Presentations can be created based on request and are tailored to meet the needs of the targeted population. Information dissemination events such as health resource fairs are also conducted by the Prevention Coordinators. There are also several established community partnerships, where we provide prevention presentations on an on-going basis.
