“Amka” means Arise and “Nzuri” means Beautiful in Swahili.
Amka Nzuri Melody Women is a creative “Learn to Play a Musical Instrument” access project centred on the needs, experiences and leadership of Black women over 50 living in the Borough of Camden. Many of our members are Disabled, Neurodiverse, living with long-term or age-related health conditions, managing supported mental health needs, caring for others, or experiencing isolation.
We are building a peer-led, culturally grounded space where Black women can learn at their own pace, reconnect with creativity, and explore musical expression later in life. Our focus is joy, self-care, experimentation, empowerment and collective learning through shared decision-making and peer support.
