Explore the world of community filmmaking and discover how it empowers storytellers to share impactful stories. Meet filmmakers who are shaping their own narratives and making a difference. This event is supported by a UK charity dedicated to the transformative power of film.

Moderator: BOLA MOSURO is a broadcaster, journalist and documentary maker who championed reporting African stories on the BBC World Service for more than 30 years.

Panel:

  • AGGIE NYAGARI-SALT is a Kenyan filmmaker based in Bristol in the UK. She has directed, produced and edited both short and long form content for broadcast TV and cinema, both in English and Swahili.
  • LAPE OLARINOYE is a distinguished British-Nigerian broadcaster with over a decade of on-screen experience. Her notable projects include in-depth reports and documentaries on child domestic labour in West Africa, mental health, entrepreneurship and migration
  • KEVIN WALDIE is an International and Social Development Specialist, and was Chairperson and Executive Director of the film production charity Purple Field Productions until 2023.
  • HASSANATU SHERIFF is a filmmaker and founder of the Empowering Women Foundation in Sierra Leone, which works towards realizing the full potential of girls and women through education and skill development. She is also a mentor in primary schools for EducAid Sierra Leone.
  • PATIEL MIZECK is a filmmaker, graphic designer, editor and training co-ordinator with the independent production company, The Kasungu Film Collective, in Malawi.
